military hardware and consumer goods

Bunny goes with the G1 cartoon Season 3 Quintesson origin or oppression of the Transformers.

Version a. It is 'present time'(whether this be 1984 or 2006 or 2010) all Transformers are still either 'Military Hardware' or 'Consumer Goods'. They serve the Quintessons, or those who purchase them from the Quintessons. Same characters, but they've all been serving other races in either a military or as domestic laborers.

Version b. It is 'present time' and Cybertronian history is according to canon, except that some remote planet or group of planets still has ownership of some Military Hardware and Consumer Goods, who are as yet unaware of the other Cybertronians who are Autobots and Decepticons and have fought civil wars, etc.

In either version, can the present Hardware and Goods realize freedom? What might a first encounter between present Hardware and Goods and Earthlings set in motion? What of a first encounter between the Hardware and Goods (in version B only) with the canonical Transformers? Do the Hardware and Goods feel any emotion about the tasks they are ordered to perform?
