The first mental lock would probably be a shield, but the other one might... *sudden thought* A binding lock! Preventing him from moving! Which will prevent him from destroying his room!

Except that was before Hook joined the Constructicons, and he had a different name. So when Ratchet is wounded and captured by the 'Cons, Hook recognizes Ratchet by his terrible behavior (because medics make the worst patients) and feels guilty for using his old mentor's own tricks against him.

And if that can be undone, what if all the collective guilt of millions of years would almost certainly destroy them or drive them mad? Even if they realized that they'd been manipulated, it would be too late for them to un-repress their consciousnesses because they don't want to die. And poor Omega is trying to 'free' them, but if he succeeds it'll kill them...

But one day, Red glitches so badly that his 'horns' short-circuit and don't even light up. No one will believe Inferno when he insists that Red is on the verge of going crazy and ripping the Ark apart.
