The Golden Compass movie x-over

Someone posted a prompt by this theme on the tfanonkink community, and I thought he idea was interesting enough to share here. (Hope the anon doesn't mind.)

In The Golden Compass, every person has an animal companion, called daemon, which represents their soul. All daemons can talk and have human intelligence, and when two or more people interact, their daemons often interact in a similar way.

How about if all Cybertronians also had daemons in the form of mecha-animals?
The anon on the kink meme specfically asked for Optimus and his daemon, Prowl (in the shape of a saluki) being courted by Megatron and his daemon, Lockdown (jaguar).

While the original idea tickled me in all sorts of nice ways, it also got my brain churning away, and I started coming up with all sorts of person/daemon combos and scenarios:

TFA-verse:
1) Bumblebee/Sari - Bee getting rap for his daemon being techno-organic.

2) Elita-1/Black Arachnia - this could be either way, an outwardly nice femme with a wicked soul or a seemingly tough and mean femme with a very kind soul.

3) Shockwave
3.a) His daemon doesn't change when he transforms into Longarm, so he has to hide it.
3.b) ...or maybe the daemon also changes.
3.c) ...or what if he has TWO daemons?
3.d) Longarm IS Shockwave's daemon. They just switch places.
3.d.1) Blurr and his daemon Bumblebee meet Shockwave and his daemon Longarm

4) Lockdown doesn't collect mods for trophies. He collects daemons.

G1-verse:
1) Cassettes = daemons

2) Seeker trines = one mech, two daemons / two mechs, one daemon

3) When gestalts combine, what happens to their demons?

4) Twins don't have daemons, for unknown reason.

That's kind of interesting but expect one thing. In the Golden Compass daemons were a different sex then their humans so the Transformers if they are mech then their daemons HAS to be femme in order it to work. There was no boy humans and boy daemons.

If I recall, Pullman actually said that it was possible to have a daemon of one's same sex, but it was rare.

I don't know if it originally came form Pullman, or not, but I got an impression from somewhere that a daemon of the same gender was indicator of a gay person.

Yeah, I tend to consider any question of sexuality in TFs doubly moot because one: there has never been any indication that any more than 10% their population is female, which makes one feel that restricting them to only hetrosexual pairings is rather unfair, and two: there is enough continuities that show that they reproduce via a third party (the Allspark or Vector Sigma) as to make the issue of hetrosexuality pointless anyway.

But then I have a long history of reading slash and know most of the fanon on various reproduction methods - including the fact that plenty of ficcers will merrily write mech-preg with almost none of the issues that it's squishy counterpart, mpreg, gets.

TL;DR, yep, giant alien robots. The rules of us squishies need not apply.

It could be spun pretty simply that the opposite gender rule may be true (most of the time) for humans, but isn't nearly as common in Cybertronians. They are, after all, an alien species, and robots besides - some rules will be a bit different.
