Sunstorm's radiation has only been seen in action against mechs from what I can gather. Suppose it was similar to the energy in that chamber on cybertron, and could harm mechs but not humans.
I'd say it would feel pleasantly warm, or even relaxing, like warm sunshine.

Now suppose Sunstorm has, for whatever reason, ended up outside the autobot base. None of the 'bots can go near him, (or they don't know he's there yet) but the humans are exploring the area and believe him to be one of the 'bots.
Since they clamber all over the others (Optimus makes a great climbing wall) they get right up close, and the radiation is so nice that they fall asleep/all sit together on his wings/torso.
Imagine his surprise when he wakes up to find himself covered in tiny organics that are apparently completely unharmed.

I'd say I've set this in movieverse, 'cos there are more human characters likely to do something like that. It's really only Spike that's young enough to get away with it in G1
