Because I suddenly remembers that giant robots don't need to follow human conventions.
1. Transformers actually have three genders. To compare them to humans there would be 'mech', 'femme', and 'carrier'; a transformers can only be one of these, so no mech or femme is ever a carrier.
A femme can create a new spark with the help of a mech, but the new spark must then almost immediately be transferred to the carrier, or else the spark will die. The new spark needs to feed off the carrier spark in order to grow (thus taking on traits and creating bonds with all three parents), so that it can later be transferred to a body when stronger - neither a mech or femme can support a new spark.
Three possible other thoughts that can go along with this:
A) Seeker trines are in actual fact breeding groups, each containing a mech, a femme and a carrier. In a similiar fashion to ancient Sparta, the best possible spark matches (with compatiable personalities) are placed together in trines at a very young age, so that they will produce the best possible sparklings
B) Creating sparks this way (as opposed to the allspark/vector sigma) is very rare. The sparks that are created this way always take triplechanger frames.
C) A mech and femme duo discover that they've managed to create a spark together - now they must find and convince a carrier to bare their spark for them. But they're on a very strict timelimit.
