This is G1 land
Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime are two different variants of the same model type of Cybertronian. The diffence are quite easily explained: Ultra Magnus is the femme variant of the model type and Optimus is the mech one. Femmes of their model type are used to carry their young with them wherever they go while the mechs carry the belongings of the family unit. The Semi Model type is used to co-raise their young, each taking equal time to care and teach their sparklings.
Similar behaviour is found by the model variant of the Vanformer, except for the fact that because of their similar altforms, the Vanformer can only identify the gender of another Vanformer through the helmform in rootform (wich has lead to several quite embarrasing and not to be spoken about incidents with hitting on other Vanformers in altmode until it was deemed to be easier and less embarrassing to save all courtship rituals for rootform encounterings). (Yes, Ratchet is a Femme)
Seekers on the other hand are hive-structured, with a Queen Seeker and her two sisters on top and the dap coloured Conehead mechs on the bottom of the social ladder. Male seekers are only needed during Sparking season, otherwise they are regaled the most boring of duties.
Minibots have several different subvariants of frames and it is not always easy to find out which gender the Minibot in question has, but it has been observed by several scientist, that Minibots of the Femme subset gravitate to bright and most of the time, calming colours (yellow, white, blue) while mechs tend to chose either muted colours or agressive ones. (But there have been exceptions, so it is not a 100% sure method)
Tapedecks are unisexual and procreate new tapedecks via spark-splitting and Symbionts by interfacing with either mech or femme of another model type.
Doorwinged models differentiate between the large-winged femme frame and the small-winged mech variant. It is speculated that the doorwinged model type and the Seeker type are loosely related, because both models observe similar types of sparking seasons (the social interacting of Doorwinged femmes and mech on the other hand is very different from the Queen!femmme - Drone!mech statue of the Seekers)
Gunformers have no visible way of distinguish between mech and femme, the only way of finding out the possible spark-gender of a gunformer lies in measuring the output of their gunform. The stronger the output of the gun, the higher the possibility that the gunformer in question is a femme.
1) Sparking season is starting for the Seekers and the Doorwinged models
2) Two Minibots and their careful courtship until their are sure that the partner is of the right gender.
3) Ultra Magnus is used to ferrying other Bots on his back, but now they have to look for another method of transportation, cause the only one that is getting carried now is his little one.
4) Shockwave, Megatrons hen-pecked mech-partner.
5) One of the two Tapedecks deciedes that it needs a new Symbiont... let the hunt for a interface partner begin
6)Ratchet lost both his partner and his Sparklings early in the war. He's created many substitute offspring, but now he starts feeling that the time is right to try again.
