(Though I have been contemplating the matter of spike sizes and one would think that with the wide variation of sizes in Cybertronians, it's possible that there are total incompatibilities with spike-in-port interfacing. I mean, it would be impossible for a standard-sized mecg, like an Aerialbot, to interface spike-in-port style with a very big mech... like Omega Supreme. But then only in the last few days there was a plotbunny about all techniques of interfacing being possible and Cybertronians just using what they prefer - or what is socially acceptable. Maybe in cases of substantial size difference it's not a matter of preference but a matter of what works.)
