Something about late nights makes my brain go weird. It came up with this:
Transformers are sparks, yes? The body isn't truly 'alive' until the spark is added. So, basically, transformers are unstable energy beings, possessing robot shells. Sorta like the ascended, in Stargate (Or demons, possessing humans in Supernatural). That said, if you set them in a universe where exorcisms work, could your exorcise a transformer? And if you could, what would happen to the spark? could it reenter the body? Or would it 'evaporate' outside the body?

Or, if it could enter a body, it's possible it absorbed energy from the environment. Ley Lines, for example, are believed to resonate energy and having these 'Ghost Lights' take up residence would support the belief that that energy is mystical in nature.
Of course, there is an ethical concern regarding exorcising a Transformer from it's own body. It could be compared to Demons stealing the souls of humans. The human performing the exorcism might believe the Transformer is simply a spirit possessing an Earth vehicle, so they'd mean well. But how would they feel when they realize what they have actually done? They'd possibly see themselves as no better than the monsters they hunt.
It'd be very interesting to see this done.

Frag. More bunnies.
