In the mountains of Wind Country, where the land is all rock rather than all sand, is the sister village to Suna; ‘The Village Hidden in the Wings’ or simply Wings. It is not given a true, separate name, because it is meant to be an extension of Suna. A place where Suna ninjas can learn to train in an different environment. Technically these ninjas are also sand ninjas, and they wear the same symbol on their forehead, but they focus much more on the aerial techniques that one might expect from a country called Wind Country.
The main distinction between the two, however, is their teams; in Wings, three-man cells are grouped together at the beginning of their time at the ninja academy, not at the end. In all their years as ninjas, teams never separate except for a few noticeable exceptions; the people are not divided as their ranks increase, they do not take solo missions and teams are not reassigned to specialize for a mission spec. The three ninjas of a team tend to live together all their lives, and their teamwork and ability to fight as a unit is the envy of all other ninja villages. The disadvantage, obviously, is that if one of the teammates can no longer function as a ninja, you lose all three.
To make a distinction, they call these teams ‘Trines’.
Ninjustu is amazing, really. Why, people can change their shape and gender if they only know the right hand signs!
…It can also change species, and defy the laws of mass and physics. Some seekers, running from the chance of war between Decepticons and Autobots on a different world, came to this, ninja-filled earth, and learnt from the humans. They learnt ninjutsu, learnt how to hide, and made a new home for themselves in the mountains of Wind Country. Some of the ninjas in Wing are humans, raised and brought up in seeker-law, but others are those seekers who settled here, and their sparklings.
Megatron had investigated the world once, and then moved on, advised by Soundwave it should wait until he crushed the resistance. In the meantime, Megatron in a more familiar universe managed to open a portal to this new world, and decided that super-powered humans would probably be a powerful energy source. Starscream even agreed with the idea –
Until, the first time they attempted to capture some of the strange humans, the trine of genin they had attacked transformed into half-grown seekers.
Addendum: It probably didn’t help the situation that the one who lunged and tried to punch Starscream himself was addressed as ‘Screamer’ by his two trinemates, or that their jounin teacher looked remarkably like Skyfire.
