I was watching The Breakfast Club this past weekend, and a bunny bit.
The younger humans in G1 have a very similar diversity to them. The brain (Chip), the princess (Astoria), the 'odd girl' (Carly), the street punk (Raoul), and the 'average' kid (Spike). And the fact of it is, most of them have never met each other onscreen.
One or more of the Autobots watch the movie and realizes the same thing. All of these kids are their allies; they may need to work together someday! Might be a good idea for them to meet and find some common ground. Optimus and Sparkplug agree.
Naturally, some of them are a little hesitant of the whole idea. Maybe they've heard stories about each other through the 'bots. But Astoria's recommended a little place in Hawaii (or somewhere equally gorgeous) for a week-long retreat, at no cost to the others....well, damn. And maybe Sparkplug goes along too (he could use a vacation, I'm sure), and gets to witness a slow evolution between 5 kids who just might change the world someday.
I can imagine the lot of them calling their respective Autobot friends about how things just aren't working over the week, and then eventually talk/complain to each other about their Autobot partners and weird things that the other 'bots do.
And guaranteed one of them would wind up asking Astoria about her and Powerglide; "How does it, y'know...work?"
